Land Tax objections - What can you do?

An objection to your land tax assessment can be lodged with the State Revenue Office (SRO) within 60 days of receipt of the notice. For your objection to be considered you will require sales evidence to support your argument that the Council Site Value (Land Value) assessment as at January 1, 2018 is too high.

Land Tax Instalments now to be paid by AutoPay

Have you previously paid your Land Tax by instalments?

If yes, it is important to note the State Revenue Office (SRO) have changed the instalment payment process.

In past years the Land Tax invoice allowed for payment to be made in 4 equal instalments, due at set dates. The 2019 notices now require the land owner to initiate the instalment option by opting in to AutoPay via the SRO website. The land owner must select the frequency of their instalments (fortnightly, monthly or quarterly) and register a credit card or transaction account for direct debit.

This must be done within 30 days of the Land Tax Assessment Notice issue date, otherwise full payment will be required in June 2019. 

If an Estate Agent manages your property, it is also important to note that your Property Manager cannot set up AutoPay for you and Trust Accounts prohibit direct debits. This means any payment of Land Tax by instalments must be paid directly from your personal accounts.
